Take Action

The aim of Knowmore.org is to raise awareness of corporate abuse, and to serve as a catalyst for direct action against corporate power.

Ethical Consumerism is an important movement toward corporate reform, through which individuals recognize their own role in systems of oppression, and take personal steps toward resistance and  positive change.

However, the problem of unchecked corporate power is systemic and goes far beyond the scope of any single boycot or campaign.

The Add Praise/Critic feature, also known as just Add, is a companion piece to the recently added Add a Company tool used to help automate the process of adding profiles for companies previously not covered by Knowmore.org. Add Praise/Critic acts in a similar manner to Add a Company, but it facilitates the inclusion of content into profiles instead. When using Add Praise/Critic, wiki syntax and formatting are taken care of by the tool, and all you need to do is fill in the blanks. While it's a very straightforward process, this page will serve as a brief tutorial and troubleshooting article.

How it's Used

Getting There

Using Add, the shortened name of Add Praise/Critic, is pretty simple. On the top of each company profile, you'll find the "action" tabs. If you've visited our wiki before, or any wiki in general, you'll be familiar with this interface. Among the usual actions like "edit" and "history" are tabs that say "add praise" or "add criticism". Clicking on either of these tabs will direct you to the the special Add page for that company.

If you're not currently logged into Knowmore.org, you'll be instructed to log in first.

Filling in the Blanks

After arriving to the special Add Praise/Critic page via the clickable tabs found on every company profile, you're presented with a short form containing four empty fields. Three of the four need to be completed in order to properly add an entry to a profile.

Entry Title

This is a required field and will serve as the "title" of your entry. The title should be both brief and descriptive, and will automatically be linked to the source material for you after submission. Often enough, contributors use the title of the source article as their entry title. This is not a requirement, however.

Entry Summary

The summary is a very important field and is considered the "meat" of any entry. This is where you summarize the source article and make clear its connection to the company you're profiling. These should be thorough while still being as concise as possible. External organizations or important terms should be linked to a relevant source of information (such as Wikipedia or the organizations homepage) using the wiki syntax [http://www.example.com Term/Organization]. This field is required.

Source URL

Source URLs are very vital to every entry on Knowmore.org. In this case, they should be the full URL of the article or source being cited. If this field is left blank, your submission will result in an error.

Article Source Text

Technically speaking, this is the only optional field of Add Praise/Critic. It is highly preferred, however, that it is completed. Article source text refers to the entire body of the article you're citing for your entry. By highlighting the text, copying it, and then pasting it into the field, the source text will be preserved in the event the original site fails or the original content is modified or removed for any reason.
